George Green Lodge is a member of the United Grand Lodge of England Universities Scheme who are aimed at being welcoming Lodges for undergraduates and post-graduates studying at universities throughout England and Wales.
George Green continues that educational connection with a rich history as a former East London Old School Lodge founded in 1911 and as a Hall Stone Jewel Lodge which symbolises that it is one of the Lodges that contributed to the building of the current Freemasons Hall in Great Queen Street which is where the Lodge meets.
The ethos of our Lodge is to provide a highly enjoyable masonic experience for like-minded under and post graduate students from any of the Universities based in London together with joining members from other Universities Scheme Lodges relocating to London. It also welcomes London masons wishing to be a part of a dynamic and vibrant lodge whilst conducting meaningful ceremonies, fun dining and social events for partners and non-masonic friends.
George Green is a very warm, welcoming and happy lodge for younger people to come together and experience the camaraderie and fellowship of freemasonry by making lifelong friendships both within George Green Lodge in particular and throughout our Masonic Brotherhood nationally and internationally.
We have a number of annual social events and have a regular Lodge of Instruction.
George Green Lodge is also proud to be a proactive supporter of Metropolitan Grand Lodge of London charities together with our own George Green specific charities and partake in volunteer work.
George Green Lodge operates under the ultimate governance of the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) founded in 1717 and extols the four virtues of integrity, respect, friendship and charitable deeds as highlighted in UGLE’s ground breaking 2020 Annual Report.
Locally within London Freemasonry, George Green also acts under the auspices of the Metropolitan Grand Lodge which was constituted in 2003 and is the largest masonic province with over 30,000 freemasons in the Country.
As a student at a University in London, should you wish to become a new or joining member of George Green Lodge, then please email our very friendly Lodge Secretary who would welcome the opportunity of communicating with you.
We invite you to explore this website to learn more about our George Green Lodge and freemasonry in general.
Should you need any further information, we will do our best to answer your questions and steer you on the path to becoming a George Green freemason.
As an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Student in London, enhance your masonry experience by joining a lodge of like-minded brethren with a shared outlook of integrity, respect for others irrespective of race or creed and good charitable deeds in a highly enjoyable environment with the opportunity of continuing to contribute to and be at the heart of London masonry.

Freemasonry is a force that evolves with the times, and so too must the ways we connect and share our stories. With this in mind, I am writing to share an important development: Arena, our much-loved magazine, will no longer be printed.

Freemasonry is influenced by the arts in every form - most obviously the theatrical spectacle of our ceremonies. These are beautiful performances which have the precision and poise of dance. Music is also integral, and good organists introduce the occasional comic riff (I once heard a Grand Inspector piped in to the Star Wars Imperial March, aka Darth Vader’s theme).
